An unidentified body washed ashore Monday just west of Point Loma Nazarene College, a city Lifeguard Services spokesman said.
The body of a man was first sighted at 11:03 a.m. by a surfer but was not recovered until 1:14 p.m. because of waves, Lifeguard Lt. Brant Bass said. The body finally came to rest near Sunset Cliffs Park.
“There was very little skin left on the body. It was hard to tell whether it was male or female,” Bass said.
The coroner’s office said the man had several tattoos on his body, but only one, which read “San Diego,” across his abdomen, was legible. A coroner’s deputy estimated that the body had been in the water three weeks.
