Zoo Told to Halt Sales to 2 Animal Traders

Mayor Tom Bradley ordered the Los Angeles Zoo on Friday to stop doing business with two animal traders who allegedly have been selling zoo animals to private game farms, where they are shot by hunters.
The dealers, Earl Tatum and Jim Fouts, were the subject of a report last week on the “60 Minutes” television show. Neither could be reached for comment Friday.
Warren Thomas, the zoo’s director, said his staff will comply with the mayor’s order and cease dealing with the two men until the American Assn. of Zoological Parks and Aquariums completes an investigation.
