Seymour Makes It Official: He’s Running for Lt. Governor

SACRAMENTO — Sen. John Seymour (R-Anaheim) declared Monday his candidacy for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
Seymour, 52, filed a formal “declaration of intent” at the secretary of state’s office and said he has raised $767,000 in campaign funds.
Seymour’s expected opponent for the Republican nomination in the June primary is Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach). She will file a formal campaign declaration this week, an aide said.
Lt. Gov. Leo T. McCarthy, the Democratic incumbent, is expected to file for a third term.
A former mayor of Anaheim, Seymour has served in the Senate since 1982. He was a real estate broker and property manager for 18 years before going into politics.
“I believe that California stands at the door to the 21st Century, facing social and economic challenges never before imagined,” Seymour said.
