Rev. Harold E. Fey, 91; Former Editor of Influential Ecumenical Magazine

The Rev. Harold E. Fey, former editor of the Christian Century, an influential ecumenical magazine, died Tuesday in a Pomona hospital. He was 91 and had edited the weekly publication from 1956 to 1964, continuing as a contributing editor until his death.
Fey, who earned his doctoral degree at Chicago Theological Seminary in 1948, had been a minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nebraska, taught at the Union Theological Seminary in Manila, the Philippines, and been editor of World Call, a Disciples of Christ magazine headquartered in Indianapolis, before joining Christian Century in 1940.
After retiring in 1964, he became professor of social ethics at the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. He also was the author of several religious books and an autobiography, “How I Read the Riddle.”
He is survived by his wife Golda, a son, a daughter, seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Place, a retirement community in Claremont.
