ABC Reaches Agreement: Good news for ABC’s East Coast radio and TV newswriters. They’ll receive two 5% pay increases under a three-year contract tentatively agreed to by the Writers Guild of America, East and Capital Cities-ABC. Union spokesman Martin Waldman said the increases would hike the average newswriters’ weekly salary from the current $863 to $949. Members of the guild work on ABC network news programs, including “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight,” and at New York’s WABC-TV, as well as stations in Washington. The old three-year contract expired at midnight Thursday, several months after negotiations began. Negotiators accepted Capital Cities’ final proposal Friday.
