KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 5-year-old girl suffered frostbite after being locked in a school bus for more than 30 hours over the weekend and charges could be filed against the driver, authorities said today.
“The possibility exists that he could be charged for endangering the welfare of a child,” said Kansas City police spokesman Bob Jones.
Angela Terrell was being treated today in a hospital for treatment of frostbite to her legs, toes and hands. The overnight low Saturday was 19 degrees.
Authorities said that the kindergarten student fell asleep on the bus and that the driver, who was substituting on the route Friday, locked up the bus at the end of the route without checking it first.
The driver was fired for violating company policies.
