Santa Ana Wins Soccer Title When Foothill Forfeits

The Foothill High School boys’ soccer team forfeited its match against Santa Ana Friday, giving the Saints (14-3-7, 6-1-3 in the league) the Century League championship, Foothill Athletic Director Bob Osborne said.
The Knights (17-4-5, 4-2-4) were forced to forfeit the match because they had scheduled too many matches this season. Under Southern Section rules, soccer teams are allowed to play 20 matches a season, not counting tournaments. Foothill had scheduled 21.
“It was my mistake,” Osborne said. “I mistook a nonleague game for a tournament and failed to count it on our schedule.”
