About 1,000 Pakistani demonstrators tried to surge across a Kashmir cease-fire line into Indian-held territory, and Islamabad television said Indian forces opened fire, killing six people. The incident, near the small village of Chaukoti, came as India cracked down on Muslim militants conducting a secessionist campaign in the Indian-held sector of Kashmir.
