La Canada Vote Helps Sport Chalet Project
- Share via
The proposed Sport Chalet project cleared a hurdle Tuesday when the La Canada Flintridge Planning Commission voted 4 to 1 to certify the environmental impact report.
Commissioner Judy Breitman voted against approving the report for the proposed 11.5-acre shopping center at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway because of traffic concerns.
A 1986 report suggested that if the entire Foothill corridor were developed, traffic congestion would rise significantly. But the commission acted after a 1989 study showed the impact of the Sport Chalet project would not by itself severely affect traffic in the area.
The city’s planning staff will now draft proposed conditions for the commissioners to consider in approving the conditional-use permit, which will send the project to the City Council for final approval.
