Navistar International Corp.: The Chicago-based truck producer and maker of diesel engines reported a net loss of $18 million in its first quarter, contrasted with a profit of $37 million in the same quarter a year earlier. Sales declined 12% to $886 million. The company attributed the loss to higher costs for payroll and parts and slowing demand for trucks and engines as customers trimmed or delayed orders because of economic uncertainty.
