A free pancake breakfast will highlight the dedication Saturday morning of the newly expanded River Park in Lakewood. There also will be free pony and hay rides, children’s games and live entertainment at the event, which begins at 9 a.m.
River Park sits beside the San Gabriel River north of the Lakewood Equestrian Center at Carson Street and stretches to Del Amo Boulevard. It is connected by bicycle and hiking paths along the river to Liberty Park in Cerritos and El Dorado Park in Long Beach. In all, the three parks have 700 acres of open and recreational space.
The 24-acre expansion at River Park was paid for with $1.4 million in state and federal recreation grants. The expansion includes the addition of an outdoor amphitheater, three picnic pavilions, three children’s play areas, a wildflower meadow, 400 new trees and expanded parking for 200 cars.
