‘89 Housing Permits in State Dipped 7%

California home builders took out 237,279 new housing permits last year, down 7.2% from the 255,559 in 1988, according to Richard L. Hall, president of the California Building Industry Assn.
Single-family permits last year totaled 162,140, almost no change from the 162,167 of 1988, but the last year’s 75,139 multifamily permits total was down 19.5% from 1988’s 93,392.
