WASHINGTON — Dr. Charles C. Edwards, a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, was named today to lead a special blue-ribbon panel that will conduct a top-to-bottom review of the embattled drug safety agency.
Edwards, who is currently president of the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, Calif., led the FDA from 1969 to 1973.
