IRVINE — Steve Scoggin, University High School boys’ basketball coach, resigned Wednesday to avoid putting pressure on his son, Brian, who will attend University and play basketball next season.
Athletic Director Mark Cunningham announced Scoggin’s resignation Thursday night.
Scoggin coached University from the 1984-85 season to the 1987-88, took a year off for personal reasons, and coached this years’ team to a 6-17 overall record, 0-10 in the Sea View League.
Scoggin will continue to teach physical education at the school. Cunningham said he is in the process of finding a replacement but is “not going to rush.”
