Help-Wanted Index Drops: A key index monitoring advertising placed by companies seeking employees was down three points in January, compared to December, a nationwide survey by the Conference Board found. The nonprofit research organization said its Help-Wanted Advertising index slipped to 146 in January from 149 in December. The monthly indicator is based on the help-wanted ad volume in 51 major U.S. newspapers. The index, set at 100, monitors advertising volume in nine regions.
