Colombia Military Officer Admits Weapons Charges

MIAMI — A Colombian military officer pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to charges that he attempted to export weapons without a license.
First Lt. Ricardo Petersson Bernal, 26, was arrested Sept. 28 when U.S. Customs Service agents found two semiautomatic rifles, a 9-mm semiautomatic pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, 1,000 rounds of ammunition and a smoke grenade in his luggage checked for an Avianca flight to Bogota.
Sentencing was not immediately scheduled.
