LOCAL : Spill Closes Freeway for 5 Hours
Northbound lanes of the Golden State Freeway in Burbank were closed for about five hours this morning after a big-rig collided with a tanker hauling diesel fuel, the California Highway Patrol said.
A small amount of the fuel from the tanker spilled when the trucks collided at the Alameda Avenue exit about 1:36 a.m., the CHP said. The drivers of the trucks suffered only minor injuries.
The CHP closed the freeway while about 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel were pumped from that tanker into another one. The freeway was opened shortly before 7 a.m., but early-morning traffic was already backed up for three miles, the CHP said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
