PREP ROUNDUP : Sacrifice Gives Liberty Christian the Edge

Mark Baltodano’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the seventh inning gave Liberty Christian a 2-1 nonleague baseball victory over visiting Linfield Christian Thursday.
Chris Buckels pitched a two-hitter for Liberty Christian (6-4), striking out 11 and walking one.
In Olympic League baseball:
Brethren 2, Orange Lutheran 1--Both runs were unearned for Brethren (1-4 overall, 1-1 in league play) at Blair Field in Long Beach. Todd Dudley, who doubled for Orange Lutheran (5-2, 1-1), had the game’s only extra-base hit.
In the Canyon softball tournament:
El Toro 3, Western 0--Paige Lauby (5-0) threw a one-hitter, striking out 14, to lead El Toro (9-2). Corrie Yauney had two singles and two stolen bases for the Chargers. Western is 5-8.
Canyon 2, Millikan 1 (8 innings)--A single to center by Traci Himes drove in DaLynne Large from second for Canyon (9-1) for the victory. Sara Roberts (6-1) had 13 strikeouts for Canyon, which advances to the 4-A semifinals Saturday. Millikan is 2-3.
Los Alamitos 5, Edison 1--Renee Bergeron had three singles and pitcher Sharon Skoglund threw a three-hitter to lead Los Alamitos in second-round pool play at Peralta Park. Dana Doyle added a triple for the Griffins (7-3).
Mater Dei 5, Huntington Beach 0--Tina Fuata hit a three-run home run in the sixth and Terri Kobata (4-0) pitched a two-hitter, striking out seven, for Mater Dei (8-0).
In Garden Grove League softball:
La Quinta 1, Rancho Alamitos 0--Stefanie Stucker scored the game’s only run on Jill Bishop’s sacrifice fly in the first inning. La Quinta’s Teresa Pinkerton (1-3) pitched a three-hitter, striking out five. La Quinta is 4-4, 2-0; Rancho Alamitos is 3-4, 0-2.
Garden Grove 4, Los Amigos 2--Stephanie Smith’s single drove in two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for visiting Garden Grove (8-2, 2-0). Smith also struck out nine batters in relief to pick up the victory. Los Amigos is 0-2 in league play.
Pacifica 8, Santiago 1--Jennifer Surface pitched 6 2/3 innings of no-hit ball and finished with a two-hitter for visiting Pacifica. Dena Villasenor had a triple, single and two RBIs and Jamie Zwick came off the bench to drive in a run for Pacifica (2-2, 1-1).
Kennedy 3, Bolsa Grande 2--Cheryl Longeway (5-1) pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine, for Kennedy (6-1, 2-0). Both Bolsa Grande’s runs were unearned.
In Olympic League softball:
Santa Margarita 7, Orange Lutheran 1--Host Santa Margarita (6-0, 3-0) was led by Erika Gambale, who had three hits and scored three runs. Niki Raimann had a triple and three RBIs, and Katie Beattie (6-0) pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking four.
Valley Christian 4, Whittier Christian 0--Visiting Whittier Christian committed four errors and all of Valley Christian’s runs were unearned. Julie Boersma pitched a four-hitter and had two hits for Valley Christian.
In nonleague softball:
Irvine 6, Laguna Hills 0--Jennifer Brundage pitched a no-hitter, striking out 14 and walking one, for visiting Irvine (9-1). Sam Lutsch hit a solo home run in the first inning and Brundage hit a solo homer in the fifth.
Liberty Christian 11, Linfield 0--Lisa Gray (2-2) pitched a no-hitter, striking out three and walking two, for Liberty Christian (4-3) at Davis Field in Costa Mesa.
Fullerton 5, El Modena 2--Fullerton’s Benna Kennedy went three for four with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead visiting Fullerton (4-4).
Trabuco Hills 10-5, University 1-4--Linda Lunceford went six for eight with seven RBIs to lead Trabuco Hills to a sweep at University. Brianna Burkman (3-2) threw a three-hitter with six strikeouts for Trabuco Hills (6-3) in the first game. University is 5-5.
In Freeway League boys’ tennis:
Sunny Hills 13, Troy 5--Freshman Davey Robbins, playing at No. 1 singles, won his sets, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, for host Sunny Hills (8-0, 1-0). Troy is 7-2, 0-1.
Fullerton 13, Sonora 5--Chris Hartshorn won his sets, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles for host Fullerton (8-1, 1-0).
In Sunset League boys’ tennis:
Fountain Valley 16, Westminster 2--Eddie Weiss, Fountain Valley’s No. 1 singles player, won his sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, as the Barons (8-2, 2-0) breezed at Fountain Valley.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Esperanza 9, Villa Park 9 (Esperanza wins on games, 90-79)--Jason Devera swept, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, to lead Villa Park, but host Esperanza (6-3) won two singles and two doubles matches in the final round for the victory.
In South Coast League boys’ track and field:
Dana Hills 91, Mission Viejo 45--Dana Hills defeated Mission Viejo for the first time in the school’s 18-year history. Daniel Niednagel won the 800 meters in 1 minute 57 seconds for Dana Hills. Also for the Dolphins, Matt Jordan threw the shot put 55 feet 3 1/2 inches and Andy Marrone threw the discus 168-7 1/2 for a school record.
In Sea View League girls’ track and field:
Corona del Mar 74, Estancia 53--Debbie Hargrove threw the discus 122-7 and Marie Midland threw it 111-0 for host Estancia.
In Southern Section boys’ swimming:
El Toro qualified for all seven championship final relays, posting the fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200 medley relays. Fountain Valley and Mission Viejo each had six relay teams qualify for the finals and Villa Park had five.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
University 3, Mission Viejo 2--John Gannon and Martin Wagner had 14 kills each and Zolpi Csanyi added 11 to lead University (2-1) to a 15-13, 13-15, 3-15, 15-9, 15-8 victory at Mission Viejo.
In Orange League golf:
Western 195, Magnolia 266--Barry Howell shot an even-par 35 to lead Western (6-1, 1-0) at Dad Miller.
In Pacific Coast League golf:
Laguna Beach 194, Laguna Hills 194--Jonah Tatch of Laguna Beach (2-2-1) shot par 32 at Aliso Creek.
Trabuco Hills 194, Orange 233--Trabuco Hills shot the lowest team score in the four years high school teams have been playing at Coto de Caza. Justin Harrison’s par 36 led Trabuco Hills (6-3, 1-0). Orange is 4-5, 0-1.
In South Coast League golf:
Capistrano Valley 283, Dana Hills 286--Jamon Nestor shot an even-par 50 over 13 holes at Marbella. Capistrano Valley is 11-1, 4-0. Dana Hills is 3-1 in league play.
El Toro 284, Mission Viejo 324--Billy Madison shot a three-over-par 55 for 13 holes to lead host El Toro (9-1, 3-1) at El Toro Marine Base. Mission Viejo is 0-4 in league play.
In nonleague golf:
Valencia 401, Canyon 412--In an 18-hole match at Alta Vista, Chris Tidland shot a two-over-par 74 to lead Valencia (6-0) over Canyon (4-1).
Estancia 178, Corona del Mar 208--Ken Calvert shot a two-under-par 33 to lead Estancia (5-1) to the lowest score in its history at Newport Beach Country Club.
