“sex, lies, and videotape” Gets Top Honors: The psychosexual comedy “sex, lies, and videotape” won the top prize for best feature film Saturday at the annual Independent Feature Project/West Spirit Awards ceremonies honoring American independent-made films. The 2,000-member IFP also gave “sex, lies, and videotape” awards for director Steven Soderbergh, best actress Andie MacDowell and supporting actress Laura San Giacomo. “Drugstore Cowboy,” which had led in the number of nominations, won prizes for best actor Matt Dillon, supporting actor Max Perlich, screenwriters Gus Van Sant and Daniel Yost, and cinematographer Robert Yeoman. The Irish-made, Miramax-distributed “My Left Foot,” a nominee for best picture Oscar, was named best foreign film. “Drugstore Cowboy” and “sex, lies, and videotape” were mostly ignored in the Oscar competition.
