Suit Filed Against Heart Valve Firm: The Public Citizen Health Research Group filed suit Wednesday on behalf of recipients of the Bjork-Shiley heart valves in Los Angeles Superior Court. The nonprofit consumer group said it will ask the court to order the maker of the valve, Shiley Inc. of Irvine, and its parent firm, Pfizer Inc. of New York, to notify people who received the “convexo-concave” mechanical valve of potential malfunctions. Shiley pulled such valves from the market in November, 1986. (Filed March 21, 1990; Case No. C755862).
