COLLEGE ROUNDUP : A Fairly Good Game Leads to Pierce Win

Pat Fairly hit his fifth home run in the past four games to help Pierce College beat San Diego City, 8-3, on Tuesday in a consolation semifinal of the Grossmont tournament.
Fairly was three for five with four runs batted in for the Brahmas (12-16). Pierce’s Mike Shwartzer had three hits, including a triple, and Tony Jordan and Joe Cascione added two hits each.
In another baseball game:
Chaffey 8, Valley 3--E. J. Pape was two for five, including a triple, for Valley (12-17-2) in a nonconference game at Chaffey.
SOFTBALL
CS Northridge 3-2, UC Riverside 0-0--Debbie Dickmann pitched a two-hitter in the first game and recorded a save in the second as the visiting Lady Matadors (30-15, 7-1) swept a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. doubleheader.
In the second game, sophomore Heather Lindstrom (10-5) yielded three hits in five innings to earn the win. Lesley Plank had a pair of doubles and drove in a run.
Cypress 9, Moorpark 1--After pitching a complete game in a 7-6 semifinal victory over College of the Sequoias, Moorpark’s Robin Thomas gave up a grand slam to Cypress’ Kerry Conahan in the championship game of the College of the Sequoias Tournament.
