Mexico Industry Shows Strong Growth: Industrial activity in Mexico grew by 4.8% in 1989, the second fastest year of growth in a decade, a report by the National Institute of Statistics said. Excerpts published by the newspaper La Jornada said an 8% average growth in electricity and gas, 6% in manufacturing and 3% in construction contributed to the overall increase in industrial production. Only mining dropped by 0.9% last year, compared to a 0.4% drop in 1988, the report said.
