Senate Confirmation of Thrift Regulator Despite Past Drug Use

In your editorial, you plead tolerance for those who, like T. Timothy Ryan, experimented with drugs in the late 1960s and early ‘70s. You warn that intolerance could lead to blacklisting an entire generation.
As one of that generation, I would also add that if you think back to those days and remember those individuals who resolutely refused even to try the gentle intoxicants so widely used, would you want any one of them in a position of authority now?
