A 45-year-old man was killed this week when the pickup he was riding in overturned in Alpine, authorities said.
The driver of the vehicle, Alfonso Aguirre, 33, of Tecate, is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, said Bob Melton, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. Aguirre was injured in the crash, he said.
The accident occurred about 6:45 p.m. Thursday on South Grade Road just east of Tavern Road, Melton said. At a curve in the road, Aguirre overcompensated, and the truck hit an embankment and overturned, he said.
The passenger, Reginald Valenzuela, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, Melton said.
