Coming Together for John Lennon: Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will contribute to a star-studded tribute to John Lennon planned for May 5 in Lennon’s hometown of Liverpool, but maybe only on video, organizers said Monday. The show is scheduled to take place on a specially constructed stage at Pier Head near the Mersey River. It was not clear whether the two ex-Beatles would attend the event, and there was no word on whether George Harrison would participate. Starr, along with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Joe Walsh, has already recorded a video of the Beatles’ “I Call Your Name,” for the show. McCartney may perform “P.S. I Love You” and “Love Me Do” on another video. Other stars scheduled to appear include Al Green, Randy Travis, Herbie Hancock and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Several networks are negotiating to broadcast the show Oct. 9.
