McDonnell Douglas: The St. Louis aerospace firm said first-quarter profit totaled $2 million, down substantially from the $169-million profit recorded in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 19% to $3.8 billion. The 1989 results included a change in accounting rules that added $179 million to the firm’s net income. Without that change, the 1989 quarter posted a $10-million loss. The firm said gains in its combat aircraft segment were offset by a large loss in transport aircraft and lower earnings in missiles, space and electronic systems.
