CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Van de Kamp Gets Labor Endorsement

The California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, has endorsed Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp for governor, along with 10 other candidates in the June 5 primary. About 400 delegates at a convention of the group’s Committee on Political Education put their seal of approval on Democratic incumbents Lt. Gov. Leo T. McCarthy, Secretary of State March Fong Eu and Controller Gray Davis. They also endorsed Kathleen Brown for treasurer, Los Angeles Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner for attorney general and Bill Press for insurance commissioner. All are Democrats. Also given the nod were four candidates for the State Board of Equalization: William Bennett, Louis Papan, Paul Carpenter and Floyd Morrow.
