Art Censorship in Cincinnati
This editorial addresses two conflicts as if they were one. The Cincinnati grand jury’s indictment of the city’s Contemporary Arts Museum is one situation which is quite apart from Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) “attack mounted against the National Endowment for the Arts.”
Helms objects to the exhibit because we taxpayers are supporting the NEA and he believes most taxpayers do not want this “trash art” to be sponsored by a tax-supported government entity! I know that I do not want my tax dollars supporting such “trash.” I strongly object to government support for these types of exhibits. If the exhibit is privately funded I have no objection.
