Chet Forte Indicted on Tax, Fraud Charges

Chet Forte, an Emmy-award winning producer and a former director of ABC-TV’s “Monday Night Football,” has been indicted in Newark, N.J., on federal tax and mail fraud charges.
Forte, 55, is named on charges of not filing a federal income tax return for 1987 and seeking mortgage loans in 1985 and 1986 without telling lenders that he owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Internal Revenue Service, an Atlantic City, N.J., casino and banks.
If convicted, Forte faces more than 70 years in prison and fines that could run into the millions of dollars, U.S. Attorney Samuel A. Alito said, adding that Forte will be arraigned on the charges after the case is assigned to a federal judge.
Forte, who was not available for comment, left ABC-TV in 1987 to become an independent producer and director.
