In another Grossmont 3-A game:
Helix 1, Mt. Miguel 0--Senior Eric Nicholson (9-1) threw a two-hitter, striking out seven, and Bobby Miller doubled in the only run in the fifth for Helix (13-8-1, 2-2). Mt. Miguel fell to 4-19, 1-3.
Grossmont 2-A League
Grossmont 15, El Cajon Valley 2--Danny Lennon improved to 6-1 for top-ranked Grossmont (21-2, 4-0). Isaac Walsh homered for El Cajon Valley (6-12, 1-3).
Santana 16, West Hills 3--Scott Hopgood homered for No. 5 Santana (17-4, 3-1), Dan Melton for West Hills (3-18, 0-4).
Palomar League
Poway 3, Orange Glen 1--Dan Miller (8-1) became the second eight-game winner in the county with a three-hitter over Orange Glen (14-9, 5-4). No. 10 Poway is 14-6-1, 6-3.
Mt. Carmel 2, Fallbrook 1--With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth, Ryan Hernandez was hit by a pitch, enabling Matt Miller to score and No. 2 Mt. Carmel to remain undefeated in league at 9-0, 19-3 overall. In the top of the tenth, Sundevil center fielder Shane Whitt threw out a Fallbrook runner trying to score from second on a single. Fallbrook is 9-10 and 4-5.
Rancho Buena Vista 6, Torrey Pines 3--Winner George Hadden nearly had as many hits (three) as he allowed (four), and Jame Gore was two for four with two RBIs for Rancho Buena Vista 11-10-1, 6-3. Torrey Pines is 10-13, 1-7.
Avocado League
Oceanside 9, Escondido 8--Jose Avila scored on Jon Guerzon’s squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift No. 9 Oceanside, which moved into first by a half game. Angel Torres, Scott Walker and Terry Vaughn hit home runs and Andrew Acevedo (7-1) went the distance for the Pirates (18-7-1, 6-2). Jerry Singleton, Mitch Anderson and John Cabral homered for Escondido (11-8, 5-2).
El Camino 13, Ramona 1--El Camino (10-11, 4-4) hit five home runs, including two by Bobby Womble. Three homers were in the first inning, by Ricky Spears, Fred Hernandez and Martin Arispe. Ramona is 4-16-1, 1-7.
San Marcos 9, San Pasqual 0--San Marcos (10-11, 4-4) got all its runs and hits in the fifth (three and six) and seventh (six and seven) to down San Pasqual (8-10, 5-2). Curt Gallego and Randy Calloway were each two for three with two and three RBIs.
