$124 Million in Hospital Cuts Proposed for County 2

Los Angeles County’s huge system of public hospitals and neighborhood clinics face nearly $124 million in cuts unless the Legislature comes to the rescue, health officials said Monday. County health Director Robert Gates said his hope for a state bailout has been dimmed by “reports that the state’s fiscal condition may be worsening.”
In a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors, Gates proposed $30.7 million in cuts at County-USC Medical Center, $14.8 million at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, $9.4 million at Olive View Medical Center, $9.2 million at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center and $6.4 million at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center. Gates also recommended slashing nearly $60 million from dozens of neighborhood clinics and $1 million from other services.
The proposals add up to $131.5 million to give supervisors flexibility.
