NATION : Bush Vows Bolivia Aid Increase

WASHINGTON — President Bush today assured Bolivian President Jaime Paz Zamora that “you and your countrymen will not stand alone” in fighting cocaine and trying to improve Bolivia’s ailing economy.
Winding up three hours of talks at the White House, Bush promised that he would seek a substantial increase in economic aid for Bolivia next year, beyond the $88 million earmarked for this year. He said Paz, in their private talks, had stressed the importance of Bolivia’s receiving development assistance.
