Pairings for Volleyball Playoffs Set

Huntington Beach High School, ranked fourth in the Orange County volleyball coaches’ poll, will play host to San Marcos in a Southern Section 4-A wild-card playoff game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Huntington Beach (13-3), which finished second to Edison in the Sunset League, is among eight county teams playing wild-card games. Winners of the eight wild-card games will advance to the first round against the eight seeded teams.
Other 4-A wild-card matches on Wednesday include El Toro at Newport Harbor, University at Capistrano Valley, Marina at Rolling Hills, North Torrance at Woodbridge and Trabuco Hills at St. John Bosco. All matches start at 7:30 p.m.
Edison will play the Trabuco Hills-St. John Bosco winner in the first round at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Laguna Beach, Dana Hills and Corona del Mar also play host to first-round games Friday.
The Southern Section 3-A and 2-A playoffs, which do not have a wild-card round, begin first-round play Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Southern Section 3-A games include Garden Grove at Long Beach Wilson, Esperanza at Riverside La Serna, El Dorado at La Quinta, El Modena at Foothill and Pacifica at Downey.
Southern Section 2-A matchups include Bethel Baptist at Calvary Chapel and Santa Margarita at Long Beach Getheseme Baptist Christian.
