Nation IN BRIEF : TEXAS : No Letup in Floods; Hundreds More Flee
- Share via
Floods continued near swollen rivers in Texas and Arkansas, swamping farmland and residential areas, forcing hundreds more from their homes and stranding starving cattle on patches of high ground. In southeast Texas, floodwaters from the Trinity and Red rivers roared toward the Lake Livingston dam as authorities inspected levees and prepared for serious flooding about 50 miles north of Houston, and near Texarkana. Flooding has killed at least 12 people in north Texas and Oklahoma during the last two weeks. As many as 250 volunteers have filled sandbags to build up the levees.
