SHORT TAKES : Tracy Ullman Decides Not to Do 5th Season of Her Show on Fox

Tracy Ullman, who has won four Emmy Awards for “The Tracy Ullman Show,” will not return for a fifth season on Fox Broadcasting Co., the company announced today.

“I have decided not to go on with ‘The Tracy Ullman Show’ after four seasons in which I was constantly challenged and happily tortured by a unique group of people,” Ullman said in a statement.

“I am proud of the shows we’ve done and I think we are leaving behind a gem,” she said.

Executive Producer James L. Brooks said the show would have continued for as long as Ullman wanted.

“It was wonderful starting from scratch with those actors and writers every week,” Brooks said. “We are all sad that it is over simply because Tracy is one of the most talented people alive.”
