Todd Lichti, a guard for the Denver Nuggets, said he will travel to Seattle for his girlfriend’s funeral despite injuries he suffered in the auto accident that took her life.
Team physician Dr. Allan Schreiber said Lichti and Nugget officials agreed it was important that Lichti make the trip.
“We’re making every conceivable effort to get him to the funeral,” Schreiber said.
“It’s absolutely crucial for him to do something like this, even though it may not be in his best medical interest. There are certain things that override here, and the psychological impact of going to the funeral, I think, would be much greater than any potential complication of the travel.”
Lichti’s girlfriend, Kirstin Gravrock, 23, of Bellevue, Wash., was killed when the car she was driving left Interstate 80 east of Lovelock, Nev., early Thursday. Lichti was a passenger.
Lichti was at Rose Medical Center in Denver after surgery to repair an open fracture of his right foot.
