FRANKFORT, Ky. — A single-engine airplane carrying six people crashed in flames just after takeoff from the Capital City airport here today with no apparent survivors, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
A spokesman said the charred remains of six victims were recovered from the site. None was identified pending notification of relatives, but a spokesman said they included a state government aide and workers from an engineering firm.
The plane, described as an out-of-state charter, crashed after its engine failed 300 yards from the runway shortly after 10 a.m., according to eyewitnesses and airport spokesmen.
Officials of the National Transportation Safety Board were called in to investigate, a spokesman added.
