John B. O’Donnell has resigned as president and chief executive of Torrance-based American Republic Bancorp and its Republic Bank unit after submitting a letter to the firms’ boards saying he “may have inadvertently engaged in activities which appear to be inconsistent with company policy,” the parent company said. American Republic did not elaborate but said it did not suffer any losses. Thomas E. Malloy, chairman, will assume O’Donnell’s duties on an interim basis.
