THE SIDELINES : McMichael Boycotts Mini-Camp

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Defensive tackle Steve McMichael, an 11-year veteran who played in every game for the Chicago Bears last season, is boycotting the team’s mini-camp because he wants to renegotiate his agreement.
Coach Mike Ditka said Thursday that McMichael is making a mistake by staying home.
McMichael and linebacker Mike Singletary were the only two team members to play in every game last season. McMichael is seeking an increase in his base salary from $500,000 to $800,000.
Ditka said McMichael is not accomplishing anything by staying away. He would not say if he will fine McMichael for not showing up.
