Boxes at the Bowl
For years I’ve tried to buy Hollywood Bowl season tickets in boxes A-11 through A-1870 and have found these boxes always sold out. Are these boxes the perks of officials? Or are they doled out to only the aristocracy?
In any event, we need a lottery or some other way to provide equal opportunity at this public institution. The Hollywood Bowl belongs to tax-paying citizens.

An executive of the Hollywood Bowl responds: “Ninety-eight to 100% of box holders--both corporations and individuals--renew their subscriptions each year. We are lucky to have one or two boxes available to be reassigned in a particular year. A subscriber can pass along--or bequeath--a box to whomever he or she wants to. This unavailability of boxes is an increasing problem, and we struggle to be fair to people seeking them.”
