Trade Mission: Women in World Trade of Irvine will send a 10-member trade mission to the Soviet Union this fall to explore barter trade arrangements between the group and its sister chapter in Moscow.
Nina Belyaeva, a research fellow at the Soviet Union’s Academy of Science and head of the Women’s Discussion Center in Moscow, said the trade groups hope to start bartering goods later this year. She described her cash-starved country as “a Third World country” that “needs everything, including machinery and equipment.”
Paula Polizzi, WWT’s president and a manager at MAI Basic Four Inc. in Tustin, said her group plans to discuss Western business practices and regulations governing U.S. technology transfer with members of Belyaeva’s organization.
Belyaeva is also legal adviser to the Alliance of Union Cooperatives, a business group that assists in the formation and operation of joint ventures in the Soviet Union.
