WORLD IN BRIEF : CHINA : Nuclear Bomb Test 1st in Nearly 2 Years

China conducted its first nuclear weapon test in nearly two years, monitors in Sweden said. Scientists at the Hagfors Observatory said seismic signals picked up over the weekend indicated that a bomb with a yield of 40 to 50 kilotons was detonated at the Lop Nor test site in northwestern China.
