A federal appeals court upheld the $1.02-billion sale of the Southern Pacific Railroad to Rio Grande Industries, which set up the nation’s fifth-largest rail operation . . . The Investment Company Institute reported that the assets of the nation’s 504 money market mutual funds fell $804.8 million in the week ended June 6, to $380.73 billion . . . Defendants in the securities case against American Continental Corp. and its Lincoln Savings & Loan unit have until next April 1 to decide if they will testify at the trial, a federal judge ruled in Phoenix.
