Garret Anderson, a two-time All-City Section 4-A Division outfielder at Kennedy High, said Thursday that he will sign a professional contract with the California Angels on Sunday.
Anderson, who batted .393, hit eight home runs and drove in 36 runs, will first play in an all-star game Saturday. A fourth-round selection in the amateur draft, Anderson said his signing bonus was between $80,000 and $90,000.
He will report to the Angels’ Northwest League team in Boise, Ida., the following weekend.
Anderson is the second Kennedy player to turn pro after agreeing to play at Fresno State. Gino Tagliaferri committed to play at Fresno before signing with Detroit in 1989.
