Westlake’s Lieberthal Named Top 5-A Player

Mike Lieberthal of Westlake High has been named the Southern Section 5-A Division Player of the Year by sportswriters.
Lieberthal, who hit 13 home runs and batted .448 with 43 runs batted in, was the third selection in the recent baseball amateur draft.
Teammate Mike Eby, who will attend UCLA, was a first-team selection as a pitcher. Eby was 11-0 with an earned-run average of 1.56. Joey Rosselli of Alemany, who was 8-3 with a 1.12 ERA and batted .425, was a first-team selection as a utility player. Rosselli has signed with the San Francisco Giants.
Joe Gordon of Simi Valley, who hit 15 home runs, was a first-team infielder.
