A 21-year-old Fullerton man was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle and smashed into a tree while he was being chased by police for speeding, authorities said.
Witnesses said the man, whose name was withheld until relatives could be notified, had been eastbound on Alta Vista Drive at more than 100 m.p.h. when he lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown into a tree near the intersection of Rose Drive, Police Sgt. Jay Fricke said.
The man suffered head injuries and died at the scene, he said.
Before the crash, an officer had been chasing the man for about 1 1/2 miles, Fricke said.
“She never got close enough,” Fricke said. “He was going too fast.”
Fricke said the man was not wearing a helmet, but “at that speed, it wouldn’t have made a difference.”
