THE SIDELINES : Dorsett Trying a Comeback

NEW YORK — Tony Dorsett, the NFL’s second-leading career rusher who retired from the Denver Broncos last season after injuring his knee in training camp, is trying a comeback, according to a published report.
Dorsett, 36, is working out at the Dallas Cowboys’ facilities and has instructed his agent, Witt Stewart, to contact other NFL teams, The National reported in today’s editions.
“I’ve still got the speed and the desire to play,” Dorsett told the paper. “All I need now is a call--and the ball.”
Dorsett rushed for 12,739 yards in 12 seasons. He had 703 yards for Denver in 1988, his first season with the Broncos after 11 with the Cowboys.
He won the Heisman Trophy and led Pittsburgh to a national championship in 1976.
