Woman Slain in Robbery Try; 2 Suspects Sought

Authorities were searching Friday for two men believed to have shot a 43-year-old La Puente woman to death during an apparent robbery attempt at a check-cashing business in Baldwin Park. Consuelo Mercado died at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina about three hours after the 8:15 a.m. shooting.
“They apparently were attempting to rob her and things went bad,” said Sheriff’s Sgt. Joaquin Herran. No one else was injured, he said. The two men sped away in a yellow, two-door car, Herran said.
