Performing at Bebop by Choice
I’m writing in response to a statement made about me by David Wharton in his article about the closing of Bebop Records (“The Bebop: Tiny Cultural Flame Flickers Out,” Friday, June 22, 1990).
In his article, he states that no club other than Bebop would hire me to perform.
This is a total lie, and very insulting at that.
I’ve been actively performing in L.A. rock clubs since 1981, and my band and I just last month completed a very successful tour of Europe.
At no time have I ever been “boycotted” by local clubs, and I want to set the record straight that I performed frequently at Bebop because I chose to, not because “no other club would take” me.
