Unocal to Buy Amoco Properties: Unocal Corp. said it has agreed to buy Amoco Production Co.’s 62.5% interest in the Chakachatna Group of oil and gas properties in the Cook Inlet of Alaska for an undisclosed price. Los Angeles-based Unocal will assume Amoco’s role of operator for the group, which also includes Chevron and Texaco. A Unocal spokesman said the 50 employees at the Cook Inlet operations will be offered employment with Unocal when the deal is completed. The employees are based in Kenai, where Unocal operates a chemical plant.
